HC Deb 23 February 1916 vol 80 c702
80. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he will state the extent to which the teaching and study of German, French, and Irish, respectively, have been subsidised during the last ten years out of the annual revenue of £61,500 derived by Dublin University and Trinity College from public sources, as distinguished from private endowments and other private income?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

I am not able to supply the hon. Member with information concerning the extent to which the teaching of Irish, French, or German is subsidised in Trinity College, over which I have no control, nor do I recognise the sources of public revenue mentioned by the hon. Member as accruing to the University.

Mr. GINNELL

Has the right hon. Gentleman asked Trinity College to supply this information?

Mr. BIRRELL

Yes. They say the information is given by reference to their Calendar.
