HC Deb 23 February 1916 vol 80 cc702-3
82. Mr. BOLAND

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that ten years have elapsed since the negotiations for the purchase of the Winn estate at Glenbeigh were concluded; and whether, in view of the fact that each of the tenants has been paying annually for his proportion of the sporting rights then acquired by the Congested Districts Board, he will state the cause of the delay in giving the tenants the benefit of the sporting rights so acquired?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Winn estate was purchased by the Congested Districts Board in July, 1907. All the holdings on the estate have not yet been sold to the tenants, and the sporting rights cannot therefore yet be conveyed to the Committee to be nominated by the tenants. The resale of the remaining holdings on the estate will be proceeded with as rapidly as possible.

Mr. BOLAND

Do I understand from the right hon. Gentleman that when the sale is completed the sporting rights will be vested in the tenants?

Mr. BIRRELL

Certainly, or to a committee nominated by them.
