HC Deb 21 September 1915 vol 74 c303
17. Mr. HINDS

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether any and, if so, what inquiries were made into the cost of living before the new and reduced scale of billeting was fixed; and whether any representations have been made as to the inadequacy of the scale?

Mr. FORSTER

Yes, Sir. Various inquiries were made, and the cost of living was fully borne in mind considering the alterations in the scale. As was inevitable, some representations have been received against the new scale, but I am satisfied that the new rates are sufficient.

27. Mr. EVELYN CECIL

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what changes have been made in the rates for billeting?

Mr. FORSTER

The altered rates have been laid on the Table of the House. I am sending a copy of the Army Order containing them to my hon. Friend.
