§ 89. Sir HENRY CRAIKasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether Sir Henry Primrose's pension, as a retired Civil servant, lapses during his tenure of the Welsh Commissionership at a salary of £1,500; and, if not, what is the amount of that pension, and whether it will be received in addition to the salary of £1,500?
§ Mr. ACLANDThe answer to the first question is in the negative and to the third in the affirmative. The amount of the pension is £1,266 13s. 4d.
§ Sir H. CRAIKArising out of that question, may I ask whether it is not a well-understood rule of the Civil Service that a retired Civil servant does not receive more pension than what, with the salary of his new appointment, is equal to that of his former office?
§ Mr. ACLANDYes, Sir, when he comes under Section 20 of the Act 4 and 5 William IV., chapter 24. In this case he does not.
§ Sir H. CRAIKAre we to understand that Sir Henry Primrose will draw an income of £2,700?
§ Mr. ACLANDYes; as he does not come under the Section of the Act, he would be able to draw pension and pay together.
