§ 71. Mr. TICKLERasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that National Reservists who had not rejoined the Colours prior to 11th August, 1914, were asked to sign a card stamped "Not entitled to bounty"; and will they receive the bounty at the end of the War in addition to any gratuity which may be given to those who receive the bounty?
Mr. BAKERThe claim to this gratuity depends not upon the date of rejoining the Colours, but upon that of undertaking the obligation to do so. Men who had not given the undertaking prior to 11th August are not entitled to this gratuity either now or at the end of the War.
§ 73. Mr. TICKLERasked the Under-Secretary of State for War why National Reservists now serving in the Humber defence scheme are only receiving 1s. 5d. per day instead of 1s. 8d., which latter is Infantryman's pay; and why they have received no kit, have had to buy their own winter shirts and underwear, and are only allowed 12s. 3d. per week for their billets instead of 17s. 6d.?
Mr. BAKERThese men are entitled to the same pay and allowances as other Infantrymen of the Territorial Force similarly situated. I am having inquiries made.
