§ 68. Mr. BRIDGEMANasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if a National Reservist, Class I., registered prior to 11th August, 1914, who tried to rejoin his old regiment and another Regular regiment on the outbreak of the War, and, being refused on the ground that there were no vacancies, joined a Yeomanry regiment for general service, accepting the same obligations as those undertaken in the Regular Forces or Special Reserve, is entitled to £10 bounty; and, if not, what is the reason?
Mr. BAKERI would refer the hon. Member to my answer to the hon. Member for the Chertsey Division on the 4th inst., of which I will send him a copy.
§ 75. Mr. JOWETTasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he can see his way to grant a bounty to the National Reserves who joined after 11th August last, as is done in the case of the National Reserves who joined before that date, seeing that there is no distinction made between the two classes in the matter of duties and risks whilst they are serving with the Colours?
Mr. BAKERThese gratuities were paid not for joining the National Reserve, nor for enlistment, but for giving in peace time a definite undertaking to serve if called upon, and the conditions cannot now be altered.
