HC Deb 04 February 1915 vol 69 c136
62. Mr. TOUCHE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that some of the duties allocated to the Volunteer Training Corps, and described as removing stock and helping threatened inhabitants, are also those of special constables; and will he consider the desirability, with a view to securing effective action in the event of invasion, of confining; this work to one authority only?

Mr. TENNANT

The duties in question have been allotted to one authority only in each county, namely, the Central Organising Committee under the chairmanship of the Lord Lieutenant. The duties of the emergency committees, under whom the Volunteer Training Corps will act, are assigned by the Central Organising Committee, and I do not think there is any danger of overlapping.

Sir COURTENAY WARNER

May I ask whether the organising committee who have charge of the Volunteers approve of this arrangement? I understand that the Home Office objects to having charge.

Mr. TENNANT

I have no information on that point, but I will inquire.
