HC Deb 04 February 1915 vol 69 c149
98. Mr. KELLAWAY

asked the Post master-General if he is aware that the postage on parcels sent to our soldiers at the front is so heavy as to be a serious tax on the relatives of many of the men; and whether he will consider the possibility of making a substantial reduction in such charges?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to similar questions on the 16th November last. The difficulties of dealing with the mails may be inferred from the fact that there are now about 300,000 letters and 18,000 parcels, or a gross weight of approximately 40 tons, dispatched from this country to the Expeditionary Force every day.
