HC Deb 23 December 1915 vol 77 c609
77. Colonel YATE

asked why captains of the general Reserve are not promoted to the rank of major and subalterns of the general Reserve to the rank of captain when vacancies occur in their units?

Mr. TENNANT

They are promoted into vacancies when they become senior of their rank.

Colonel YATE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that senior captains in the Reserve serving at the front as second in command of their regiments have been refused promotion to major, and that many senior and experienced officers are thus treated?

Mr. TENNANT

I am not aware of that, but if my hon. and gallant Friend will give me precise cases, I will certainly have them inquired into.

Colonel YATE

I thank the right hon. Gentleman for that assurance.
