HC Deb 27 April 1915 vol 71 cc552-3
24. Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

asked the Under Secretary for War whether he will consider the question of promoting lieutenants in the Army Veterinary Corps to captains, as has been done in the case of lieutenants in the Royal Army Medical Corps; and, if this is not possible, will he consider the suggestion that the rank of captain be granted to all members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons possessing a qualification of five years or more before joining?

Mr. TENNANT

Up to the present there has been a sufficiency of captains in the Army Veterinary Corps for the purpose of command, and the necessity for the extra promotion of lieutenants has not therefore arisen. It is not considered advisable to grant the rank of captain automatically to those in possession of the time qualification mentioned by the hon. Gentleman, but selected cases will be considered when vacancies in that rank occur.
