HC Deb 27 April 1915 vol 71 c553
25. Mr. ROWLANDS

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that police constables are calling at houses in Kent inquiring for the names of male residents who are of military age; whether this practice is general over the country; and under what authority is the canvass being carried out?

Mr. TENNANT

The canvass mentioned by my hon. Friend is not being carried out under the authority of the War Office, which possesses no information on the subject.
