HC Deb 27 April 1915 vol 71 c552
22. Mr. HODGE

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether his official information shows that military bands that are at the front counteract the effects of the monotony and hardships of trench life and its surroundings; and, if so, will he undertake that military bands be sent to France, in preference to permitting them to play at seaside or other resorts?

Mr. TENNANT

A communication has recently been received from the Field-Marshal Commanding-in-Chief in which he has expressed his opinion that military music has a good effect on the troops resting in rear of the trenches. Proposals in connection therewith are now under consideration.

Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer the last part of the hon. Member's question?

Mr. TENNANT

It surely would be a great advantage that we should have bands playing wherever possible.
