HC Deb 15 September 1914 vol 66 cc855-6
41. Mr. STEWART

asked the number of recruits obtained in each county of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales since the declaration of war?

Mr. TENNANT

I regret that the information asked for by the hon. Member is not available. The numbers are tabulated by recruiting areas, the boundaries of which, as a rule, do not coincide with county boundaries. Although I recognise that the results of the tabulation suggested would be interesting I do not think that the recruiting staff, the demands upon whose time and energies are very heavy, should be asked to embark upon the long and tedious task involved.

Mr. STEWART

The right hon. Gentleman has the returns of recruiting areas already tabulated: would it be an inconvenience if I repeated the question to-morrow in that form?

Mr. TENNANT

No Sir, not at all.

Sir RYLAND ADKINS

Is there any objection to the Territorial Associations getting returns of this kind through the local depots, and publishing them after-words as soon as they can?

Mr. TENNANT

No, Sir, I do not think there would be any objection to that.
