HC Deb 15 September 1914 vol 66 c856
42. Sir JOHN JARDINE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War what is the reason why letters from officers and soldiers at the front are delayed so long before delivery to the person addressed; and if he can state how many days of delay are caused by the operation of censoring the contents?

Mr. TENNANT

There is no delay in this country; the letters are delivered at once. Such delay as there is arises from the inevitable difficulties of transport and changes of base in France. I am not aware that any appreciable delay can be attributed to the censuring, which is all done in France.
