HC Deb 17 November 1914 vol 68 cc323-4
42. Mr. TYSON

WILSON asked the Under-Secretary for War if he is aware that His Master's Voice Gramophone Company, of Hayes, who are making ammunition boxes, rifle cases, packing cases, and other articles for the War Office, have reduced both the piece and day rate of wage paid to their employés, on the ground that the War Office is paying such a low price for the work done that they cannot afford to pay the standard rate of wage; and whether he will make an inquiry into the matter with the object of compelling this company to pay the proper rate of wage?

Mr. BAKER

I am not aware of any such allegation, but if the hon. Member will furnish particulars of the class of labour and of the reductions of rates referred to, the matter shall be investigated.
