HC Deb 17 November 1914 vol 68 c328
14. Mr. CHIOZZA

MONEY asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis has issued a special warning and appeal relating to fast motor-driving in London, in which it is stated that certain motorists are taking advantage of the national emergency to drive to the danger of the public, with the result that there has been a grave increase in accidents; if he is aware of the proportion of motorists thus offending; and if he will lake special measures to suppress these offences?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. McKenna)

The answer to the first paragraph of the question is in the affirmative. I am unable to say what is the proportion of motorists thus offending, but it is larger than in normal times. Special measures will be taken, if necessary, but I trust the warning referred to may suffice.
