§ 51. Sir J. D. REESasked the Postmaster-General what was the result of the trial of Mr. Tomlin, late sub-postmaster at Sittingbourne, for being in possession of plans of the aviation school at Eastchurch; and was any prosecution instituted or any action taken in regard to Mr. Budd, an employé of Messrs. Siemens, who had been employed at the aviation ground and admitted that he had left the papers at Tomlin's house?
§ Captain NORTONMr. Tomlin, the sub-postmaster of Eastchurch, was arrested 328 by the military authorities on 31st August, and was charged with an offence against the Official Secrets Act. The case came before the Sittingbourne Petty Sessions on the 14th September, with the result that Mr. Tomlin was discharged. I have no information about the case of Mr. Budd, who is not a Post Office servant.
§ Sir J. D. REESCan the hon. Gentleman say whether Mr. Tomlin is not a Post Office servant, and seeing the nature of this offence is it not the duty of somebody in the Government to prosecute him and see that he is brought to justice?
§ Captain NORTONMy duty is to attend to the Post Office service.
§ Sir J. D. REESDoes the hon. Gentleman not think it his duty to be interested in a case like this which came to light in the Post Office service?
§ Captain NORTONI am very much interested.
§ Sir J. D. REESWill the hon. Gentleman make his interest effectual and try to bring this person to justice?
