HC Deb 15 May 1914 vol 62 cc1461-3

Clergy Mutual Assurance Society Bill,

Isle of Thanet Gas Bill,

Read the third time, and passed.

Abertillery and District Water Board Bill [Lords] (by Order),

Order for Third Reading read.

The DEPUTY-CHAIRMAN of WAYS and MEANS (Mr. Maclean)

I beg to move, "That the Bill be recommitted to the former Committee."

Sir G. YOUNGER

I object.

Mr. MACLEAN

May I just explain that the reason for this Motion is that a misunderstanding arose before the unopposed Committee on the Bill, and in consequence of that misunderstanding the Chairman of Ways and Means came to the conclusion that the parties ought again to go before the Committee. In those circumstances, I hope that the hon. Gentleman will withdraw his objection.

Sir G. YOUNGER

I am very sorry. I was asked by my hon. Friend the Noble Lord the Member for Dover (Viscount Duncannon) to object to the recommittal of this Bill. I really do not know for what reason. I assume that it is a formal objection, but I cannot myself depart from the promise I made.

Third Reading deferred till Monday next (18th May).
