HC Deb 11 May 1914 vol 62 cc724-5
71. Mr. WORTHINGTON EVANS

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will state how many labourers and how many leading hands are employed by the War Office in the Army Ordnance Department at wages for labourers of 18s. 6d., and for leading hands at 20s. 6d.; and whether, in view of the action of the Post Office in fixing the minimum wage of 22s., the Government also intend to apply the same principle to these men?

Mr. BAKER

I hope shortly to make an announcement on this subject.

Mr. WORTHINGTON EVANS

As this is a specific question, can the hon. Gentleman not answer it now?

Mr. BAKER

As the matter is still under discussion I am afraid I cannot.
