HC Deb 04 May 1914 vol 62 cc26-7
50. Mr. COWAN

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the feeling existing in Scotland in favour of a statutory half-holiday for agricultural workers, the Government will give facilities for the further stages of the Farm Servants' Holiday (Scotland) Bill, recently introduced by the hon. Member for West Fife, in the present Session?

The PRIME MINISTER

I fear I do not see my way to give facilities for the Bill referred to. In this connection I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given by the Secretary of State for Scotland on 5th March last.

Mr. COWAN

Does the right hon. Gentleman decline to give facilities merely for this Session?

The PRIME MINISTER

My answer is intended to apply to this Session.

Captain MURRAY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that efforts are being made to settle this question by agreement, and that the efforts have been attended with some measure of success?

The PRIME MINISTER

Yes, and I hope they may result in success.
