HC Deb 12 February 1914 vol 58 cc311-2
16. Dr. CHAPPLE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the continued delay in effecting reforms in the control of the New Hebrides, he will approach the French Government with the suggestion that a joint commission of inquiry be set up to investigate and report?

Mr. HARCOURT

The question of the steps to be taken for the improvement of the administration of the condominium is receiving the earnest consideration of the French and British Governments, and His Majesty's Government are in communication with the French Government on the subject.

Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman has received a report of a meeting held in Melbourne and presided over by the ex-Premier of Victoria in regard to this matter?

Mr. HARCOURT

Yes, I think I have.
