HC Deb 06 April 1914 vol 60 c1617
99. Mr. O'DOWD

asked the Chief Secretary why Luke Torsney, aged seventy-eight, resident in the townland of Cloonamanagh, parish of Emlaghfad, Ballymote, sub-pension district, county Sligo, is only allowed 2s. per week pension, although his limited means would entitle him to the maximum amount?

Mr. BIRRELL

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to his question on this subject on the 31st December, 1912. Torsney has a farm of seven acres with several head of cattle in addition to pigs and fowl, and, as already pointed out, in the opinion of the Local Government Board he is not entitled to more than 2s. a week. Since 1912 he has again raised the question of an increase in his pension, and before deciding against him the Board sent one of their inspectors to investigate and report on his circumstances.
