HC Deb 06 April 1914 vol 60 cc1616-7
51. Mr. WILLIAM O'BRIEN

asked whether the Government intend to pass an Irish Land Purchase Bill this Session?

Mr. McKENNA

I fear I can only refer the hon. Member to the answer given by the Prime Minister on this subject on the 26th of February last.

Mr. W. O'BRIEN

Does that mean that there is no intention of passing the Bill?

Mr. McKENNA

No, Sir.

Mr. O'BRIEN

What does it mean?

98. Mr. GUINEY

asked the Chief Secretary, having regard to the fact that the tenants on the estate of Mr. William Lysaght, on the lands of Lyreneague, barony of Duhallow, county of Cork, signed purchase agreements under the Land Purchase (Ireland) Act, 1903, about eight years ago, and that it was agreed at that time between the landlord, the Estates Commissioners, and the tenants that a new line of road would be made through the townland and connecting with the public road, will he say what steps have been taken to have such new road made, whether it is contemplated to make the same, and the probable date of vesting the lands in the tenants?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

This estate is the subject of a sale by the owner direct to the tenants under the Irish Land Act, 1903, and purchase agreements at prices arranged between the parties were lodged with the Estates Commissioners in December, 1906. The Commissioners have bad the property inspected and are at present in communication with the owner on the subject of road accommodadation on the estate. The Commissioners hope to be in a position to vest the holdings in the purchasing tenants during the present financial year.
