HC Deb 23 June 1913 vol 54 c771
8. Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture if he has received any intimation of the existence in any and, if any, what counties of the eelworm or frit-fly in the oat crop which was so prevalent and destructive a year ago; and, if not, how his expert advisers account for the disappearance of this pest?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

Damage by frit-fly has been reported to the Board this year from Hampshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire. The attacks of this pest, like those of many others, are subject to great seasonal fluctuation, and the variation from year to year is probably not due to any one specific cause. The Board have received no particular information respecting the prevalence of eelworm.
