HC Deb 19 June 1913 vol 54 cc532-3
36. Mr. PERKINS

asked the Postmaster-General if he will consider the possibility of issuing straw hats and khaki jackets to postmen, having regard to the fact that the regulation shako and the blue tunic issued to the service are unfitted for wear during the present weather?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Herbert Samuel)

Postmen are provided with summer suits of a light serge material; arid they are permitted to wear straw hats and to dispense with their waistcoats during hot weather. I do not see any reason for an alteration in the present arrangements, which were recently considered by a Departmental Committee on uniforms.
