HC Deb 19 June 1913 vol 54 c533
37. Mr. MITCHELL-THOMSON

asked the Postmaster-General whether any extra fee is charged for the dispatch of telegrams from the Ballymagee Street post office in Bangor, county Down; and, if so, for what reason and by what authority this extra charge is made?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

Public telegraph business is not transacted at the Ballymagee Street post office, but persons are allowed to use the telephone call office there for the purpose of dictating messages to the Bangor post office for onward transmission as telegrams. This facility is allowed at many telephone call offices, as stated at pages 110 and 111 of the Post Office Guide, subject to payment of the usual call office fee, in addition to the cost of the telegram. I will, however, inquire whether the circumstances justify the establishment of a telegraph office at Ballymagee Street.
