HC Deb 09 June 1913 vol 53 c1237
31. Mr. KING

asked the President of the President of the Board of Education whether the trustees of the parish charities of Ewell, Surrey, have asked leave to utilise their funds in reconstructing the premises of the Church of England school; whether he will withhold his sanction until the objections of all persons interested have been heard, as was promised by his predecessor when this matter was raised in 1910; and whether, in any diversion of the funds from charitable purposes, he will consider the claims of the parish to some assistance in building the new school which is about to be provided?

Mr. PEASE

The answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative. In 1911 the Board intimated the extent to which the income of the charities could, under the existing trusts, be applied to those purposes, and stated that they were not prepared to entertain an application for a scheme to increase the amount available. I intend to adhere to that decision. I am advised that no part of the funds of these charities could properly be allocated towards meeting the cost of the new council school.
