HC Deb 05 June 1913 vol 53 c1036
49. Mr. HUNT

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the fact that the question of invasion is now under investigation by a Sub-Committee of the Committee of Imperial Defence, he can now state if he can see his way to preventing Members of the Government from prejudicing the question by making statements to the effect that the invasion of this country is an inconceivable possibility?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have read a verbatim account of the speech made by my right hon. Friend, and am quite in agreement with what he said, of which the summary quoted by the hon. Gentleman is no doubt unintentionally misleading. I would refer the hon. Member to this account, of which I shall be pleased to send him a copy should he desire it.

Mr. HUNT

May I ask whether the words "inconceivable possibility" are in the Report which the right hon. Gentleman has seen, and if the Report comes from a Liberal or Unionist paper?

The PRIME MINISTER

I do not know about that I will send the right hon. Gentleman the paper called the "Echo."
