HC Deb 05 June 1913 vol 53 c1036
50. Mr. HUNT

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is the intention of the Government to use a certain number of the police instead of soldiers during strikes and to arm them with rifles when engaged on duty during strikes?

Mr. McKENNA

There is no intention of arming the police with rifles when engaged on duty during strikes.

Mr. HUNT

Are we to understand that there is no intention of using the police instead of soldiers for strike duty?

Mr. McKENNA

No, Sir; there has been no occasion to use police for soldiers on strike duty.
