HC Deb 05 June 1913 vol 53 cc1035-6
48. Mr. C. BATHURST

asked the Prime Minister if the Government have been in negotiation with the Metropolitan authorities in reference to Deptford Market with a view to establishing there an exclusively Colonial trade in dead meat and so providing some safeguard for a continuous food supply to London in time of war; and, if so, whether he will state the result of such negotiations?

The PRIME MINISTER

I understand that nothing has passed on this subject which could be termed negotiations, though certain suggestions have been made which will be carefully considered by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Agriculture.

Mr. C. BATHURST

When a decision is come to, in view of the national importance of the matter, will the right hon. Gentleman be prepared to make a statement to the House on the subject?

The PRIME MINISTER

was understood to indicate assent.
