HC Deb 20 November 1912 vol 44 c276
29. MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked whether the War Office give any financial assistance towards the carrying on of soldiers' homes or institutes; and whether he will consider the desirability of giving a sum on the commencement of such buildings to assist the initial capital expenditure where such institutes are started in large military centres and where the presence will be for the good and comfort of the soldier?

Colonel SEELY

Where a good case is made out for assistance the War Office makes Grants towards the capital expenditure on soldiers' homes and institutes. No Grants are made for annual upkeep. The funds at the disposal of the Department for this purpose are strictly limited.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman if he is going to give a Grant towards the Soldiers' Institute near Edinburgh?

Colonel SEELY

I will certainly consider very carefully any representations made to me.
