HC Deb 20 November 1912 vol 44 cc293-4
64. Mr. HORNER

asked the Secretary to the Treasury the cause of the delay in Ireland in dealing with applications for certificates that Death Duties have been accounted for; whether the applications for registration of beneficiaries on the death of a registered owner of land will not be dealt with in the Land Registry except accompanied by such a certificate, and that therefore inconvenience is being caused in the closing of sales of property; and that applications made over six months ago have not been returned?

Mr. MASTERMAN

Applications for certificates of discharge from Death Duties in registration of title cases are disposed of as promptly as possible, but some delay is inevitable in cases where valuation is necessary. The answers to the remaining parts of the question are in the affirmative, but every effort is being made to expedite such cases.
