§ 79. Mr. HUGH BARRIEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Imperial and Local Taxation Committees have now heard evidence from Ireland, and when the Committee's Report may be expected; and whether, pending the receipt of the Report, it is the intention of the Treasury to put the local taxation account in a solvent position, and thereby enable it to discharge its obligations to Irish public boards now seriously in arrear?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEThe answer to the first part of the question is in the negative; as regards the second I have nothing to add to my reply to the hon. Member for South Paddington on the 19th July. Pending the report of the Committee, I am not prepared to deal with individual anomalies in the present system of Government subventions to local authorities.
§ Mr. HUGH BARRIEHas the right hon. Gentleman any idea when we may expect the Report of the Committee?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEI am afraid I must ask for notice.
§ Mr. HUGH BARRIEWill the right hon. Gentleman consent to receive a deputation on the subject?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEPerhaps the hon. Member will speak to me on that matter.
