HC Deb 04 November 1912 vol 43 c841
79. Mr. HUGH BARRIE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Imperial and Local Taxation Committees have now heard evidence from Ireland, and when the Committee's Report may be expected; and whether, pending the receipt of the Report, it is the intention of the Treasury to put the local taxation account in a solvent position, and thereby enable it to discharge its obligations to Irish public boards now seriously in arrear?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative; as regards the second I have nothing to add to my reply to the hon. Member for South Paddington on the 19th July. Pending the report of the Committee, I am not prepared to deal with individual anomalies in the present system of Government subventions to local authorities.

Mr. HUGH BARRIE

Has the right hon. Gentleman any idea when we may expect the Report of the Committee?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I am afraid I must ask for notice.

Mr. HUGH BARRIE

Will the right hon. Gentleman consent to receive a deputation on the subject?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

Perhaps the hon. Member will speak to me on that matter.
