HC Deb 21 March 1912 vol 35 cc2053-4
MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked if the right hon. Gentleman is aware that dissatisfaction exists amongst Scottish Post Office employés at the official attitude in respect to the Scottish standard cost of living; whether, in view of the fact that it has been promised that the matter would come up for early discussion and that he in his letter of 22nd December, 1911, practically admitted that in many cases Scottish postal employés would now have been receiving better treatment had they received equal treatment with those in other parts of the kingdom, he is now prepared to deal with the case at an early date?

The POSTMASTER - GENERAL (Mr. Herbert Samuel)

For the reasons stated in the letter referred to, I am not prepared to pursue the question of the separate cost of living standard for Scotland pending consideration of the matter by the forthcoming Select Committee.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

When will the forthcoming Select Committee sit and when is it likely to report?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The House will be asked to appoint a Committee shortly before or shortly after the Easter holidays. The date of issuing the Report will depend upon the length of the deliberations of the Committee.
