asked whether the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries have received any communication from either the Development Commissioners or the Treasury containing an intimation that a Grant in aid of the scientific and developmental work of the Lancashire and Western Sea Fisheries Joint Committee will shortly be made; if so, what is the amount of the proposed Grant; what are the objects upon which it may be expended; and will that amount be available during the financial year commencing on the 1st April, 1912?

The Treasury, on the recommendation of the Development Commissioners, have approved of the Grant to the Lancashire and Western Sea Fisheries Committee of a sum not exceeding £1,240, for the following purposes:—

(a) In aid of the maintenance of a steamer 900
(b) For nets and gear 140
(c) In aid of the maintenance of the laboratory at Piel 100
(d) In aid of the maintenance of the laboratory of Liverpool University 100

A proposal that Grants should be made for the salary of an additional assistant naturalist and a hydrographer is also under consideration. The answer to the last part of the question is in the affirmative.
