HC Deb 11 March 1912 vol 35 c818
Captain MURRAY

asked the hon. Member for St. George's-in-the-East, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether he is now in a position to give the House any further information as to the suggested site in the Green Park for the King Edward memorial statue?

Mr. WEDGWOOD BENN

The executive committee met on Thursday, 7th March, and inspected a sketch model of the memorial, which it is proposed to erect at the Piccadilly end of the Broad Walk. The model will shortly be placed in the Tea Room, with a ground plan showing the site suggested.

Captain MURRAY

Has the Shadwell Park scheme had any influence in the recommendation?

Mr. WEDGWOOD BENN

Yes. If the Shadwell Park scheme is to be proceeded with, the Broad Walk scheme must be approved.

Lord CLAUD HAMILTON

Will the Government afford the House an opportunity of discussing the matter?

Mr. WEDGWOOD BENN

Yes. I understand that the Prime Minister has promised an opportunity for discussing the matter.
