HC Deb 11 March 1912 vol 35 cc817-8
Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he is aware of the damage caused to roadways by the speed and by the weight of motor vehicles; if the regulations made under The Motor Car Act, 1903, with reference to weight are strictly enforced, and, if so, by whom; and if he will take into consideration the desirability of amending the said regulations in view of the ever-increasing weight of motor vehicles?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. John Burns)

I have had some representations made to me from time to time on this subject. I am not aware that the regulations to which the hon. Member refers are not generally enforced. I may point out that the requirements of the Heavy Motor Car Order must be complied with before the motor car can be registered. I have recently received a communication from the Institute of Municipal and County Engineers suggesting an Amendment of the Order, and the matter will receive my consideration.
