HC Deb 11 March 1912 vol 35 c818
Mr. BOOTH

asked the hon. Member for St. George's-in-the-East, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, if Wellington House and its contents are insured against fire and tempest; and, if not, can he assure the House that no loss can fall from this cause upon the Insurance Fund set up under the National Insurance Act?

Mr. WEDGWOOD BENN

The building is insured under the terms of the head lease. The contents, which belong to the Government, are not insured, as it is contrary to the general practice of the Office of Works to insure Government property. Any loss consequent on fire or tempest would not fall on the Insurance Fund.
