HC Deb 11 March 1912 vol 35 c796
Mr. BOOTH

asked if, with a view to avoiding any necessity for servant girls becoming deposit contributors under the National Insurance Act, the Commissioners are taking any steps to encourage the formation of societies or sections to be composed mainly of domestic servants, so that the full benefits of the measure may reach this large class of unorganised labour?

Mr. MASTERMAN

The Commission have under their consideration the means whereby accurate information as to the advantage of joining an approved society may be conveyed to domestic servants and others engaged in unorganised trades. In addition to new societies which are being formed for such persons, existing societies have already signified their intention on obtaining approval of accepting them as members.

Mr. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether it is possible for anyone to say what the alternative benefits available for servants are until the reserve value has been fixed?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I think some general information can be given as to the alternative benefits. As the hon. Gentleman knows, I am pressing on as quickly as possible to obtain the reserve values.

Mr. HUNT

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether all the new members will get 9d. for 4d.?

Mr. MASTERMAN

In my opinion they will get rather more than 9d. for 4d.
