HC Deb 11 March 1912 vol 35 cc796-7
Mr. BOOTH

asked the Secretary to the Treasury if his attention has been called to the issue of circulars by certain small trade unions stating that they will become approved societies and guaranteeing that all new members will get 9d. for 4d. under the National Insurance Act; whether any sanction has yet been given to any approved society; and whether this interpretation of the benefits to be obtained has been sanctioned by the Insurance Commissioners?

Mr. MASTERMAN

My attention has not been called to any such circular. No society has yet been approved, nor have any circulars been submitted to the Insurance Commissioners for official sanction.

Mr. ALBERT SMITH

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether, if a trade unionist did make this statement, he would be telling a lie or the truth?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I have already answered.
