HC Deb 04 March 1912 vol 35 cc9-10
Sir HILDRED CARLILE

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he will consider the advisability of granting a subvention for the encouragement of the use of wireless telegraphy on fishing boats, and thus follow the example which has been set by the German and French Governments in dealing with boats belonging to men of their own nationalities?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have no doubt that there may be cases in which fishery vessels might be fitted with facilities for wireless telegraphy with much advantage. I have, however, received no representations from those concerned which lead me to think that Government subventions are requisite.

Sir H. CARLILE

Will the right hon. Gentleman give the subject careful consideration with a view to action?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have given the subject careful consideration, but there has been, I understand, no demand up to the present.

Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

If a demand is made will the right hon. Gentleman favourably consider it?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have said that I have considered the matter.
