HC Deb 22 February 1912 vol 34 c722
Viscount WOLMER

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he will explain why, in view of the fact that he refused to send any troops to Dublin during the disturbances there last summer, he decided to send five battalions of Infantry, a squadron of Cavalry, and half a company of Royal Engineers to Belfast on 8th February?

Mr. RUSSELL

There was no necessity to send troops to Dublin during the strikes last summer, as the large garrison quartered there was available if required. Troops were sent to Belfast on the occasion referred to at the request of the Lord Mayor of that city, in view of possible disturbances.
