HC Deb 20 February 1912 vol 34 c439
MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked what arrangements are made under the National Insurance Act for providing medical attendance for a contributor who falls ill away from his own locality, as in the case of a Scottish contributor residing temporarily in England?

Mr. MASTERMAN

It is clearly impossible to state at present what precise form the arrangements will take for dealing with the contingencies referred to in the question. The matter will be for the consideration of the different local insurance committees acting subject to the regulations and to the approval of the Insurance Commissioners.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that many people in this position are wondering what they are to do in the matter?

Mr. MASTERMAN

It really does not vary from the question what will happen to a member who belongs to one branch in England and wishes to be treated in a different part of England. All these cases will come under the regulations of the Insurance Commissioners.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the rates for doctors in England may be different from those for doctors in Scotland?

Mr. MASTERMAN

That will make no difference.

An HON. MEMBER

What does make a difference?
