HC Deb 20 February 1912 vol 34 cc438-9
MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how, under the National Insurance Act, a contributor permanently resident in Scotland is dealt with who is a member of a society in England that has no branch in Scotland, such as the Hearts of Oak, and under which Insurance Commissioners does he come?

Mr. MASTERMAN

A society which has members in more than one part of the United Kingdom will make special arrangements for members resident in parts other than that in which the central offices are situated. The financial adjustments will be subject to regulations of the National Health Insurance Joint Committee.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

Which Insurance Commissoners would a society such as the Hearts of Oak come under?

Mr. MASTERMAN

If the Hearts of Oak wish to be registered in their central office in London they will come under the English Commissioners, but if they apply as a society wishing to operate in all four countries approval will be given by the Joint Committee.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

What happens to a man who insures with them if they are registered in England?

Mr. MASTERMAN

That is the question I have tried to answer, and I think I have answered it.

Mr. CASSEL

If they are registered in England and the man is resident in Scotland?

Mr. MASTERMAN

That is the question I have already answered.
