HC Deb 20 February 1912 vol 34 c455
Mr. C. BATHURST

asked whether Sir Stafford Howard has resigned the post of Commissioner of Woods and Forests, and whether such resignation is to take effect as from next month; whether his successor has yet been decided upon; and, if so, who he is, and what knowledge and experience of sylviculture and forestry does he possess?

Mr. MASTERMAN

The answer to the first two questions is in the affirmative. Sir Stafford Howard's post will not be filled and the duties hitherto attached to it will be divided between Mr. Leveson-Gower and my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Agriculture, acting in his capacity of Commissioner of Woods and Forests. Questions affecting sylviculture and forestry will be dealt with by the latter. The best way of obtaining further expert advice on the subject is under consideration.
