HC Deb 19 December 1912 vol 45 c1685
73. Mr. DOUGLAS HALL

asked whether a Departmental or other inquiry has been held to inquire into the desirability of rebuilding Osborne College on the present site or any other site; and what decision, if any, has been come to in this connection?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The Departmental Committee on the education and training of cadets, midshipmen, and junior officers, over which Admiral Sir Reginald Custance presided, in the course of their inquiries investigated various questions in connection with the training of cadets at Osborne. As regards the college itself, they suggested certain structural alterations, which are now under the consideration of the Board. There is no question of removing or rebuilding the college at the present time.

Mr. DOUGLAS HALL

Is the sleeping accommodation for the cadets to be rebuilt?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I cannot say exactly what structural alterations will be made.

Mr. DOUGLAS HALL

Will the right hon. Gentleman later explain what structural alterations will be made?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Yes, if the hon. and learned Member will put down a question asking what structural alterations are being made, I will give the information as soon as the alterations are decided upon.
