HC Deb 19 December 1912 vol 45 cc1685-6
74. Major ARCHER-SHEE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he can now say when he will make a statement with reference to the condition in which His Majesty's ship "Torch" and His Majesty's ship "Prometheus" were sent to sea whilst in commission on the Australian station in the year 1911?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Sir, I regret that I must ask the hon. Member to postpone his question until we return after Christmas. The facts disclosed in the report of the Commander-in-Chief raise several serious administrative and disciplinary issues on which, in justice to individuals, a decision cannot be hurried.

Lord CHARLES BERESFORD

In regard to the former statement of the right hon. Gentleman may I inquire whether the two officers superseded—I do not want their names—were naval or dockyard officers?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I would ask for notice.
