HC Deb 17 December 1912 vol 45 cc1285-6
50. Mr. OUTHWAITE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if his attention has been drawn to the following recent developments within the Empire in the matter of taxation and rating of land values; the legislation carried by the legislature of Alberta making compulsory the assessment of municipal rates upon land values only within a term of years; the adoption of land value as the sole basis of assessment by some Canadian municipalities; the Report of the Royal Commission on Provincial Taxation appointed by the Government of British Columbia in favour of the taxation of land values; the statement recently signed and published by the mayors and aldermen of the municipalities of Sydney, New South Wales, on the success which has attended, as regards these municipalities, the rating of land values; the Report of the Transvaal Leasehold Townships Commission in favour of the rating of land values; and if he will obtain official Reports in regard to the foregoing and have them presented to the Departmental Committee on local taxation?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

My attention has been drawn to some of the matters stated in the question. I will consider my hon. Friend's suggestion.
