HC Deb 11 April 1912 vol 36 cc1396-7
Mr. ROTHSCHILD

asked the Prime Minister whether there have been any occasions upon which the Imperial Government has sought to interfere with the executive act of a Colonial Government with the result that the Colonial Government has resigned or threatened to resign, and thereupon the Imperial Government has withdrawn; and what those occasions were?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Harcourt)

A case of the kind referred to will be found on pages 25–29 of Cd. 2905; but I suggest that the hon. Member should refer to the Constitutional text-books dealing with the relations between the Imperial Government and the Governments of the Self-governing Dominions for information on such matters.

Mr. ROTHSCHILD

Would the right hon. Gentleman say what are the two occasions referred to in the Life of the Duke of Devonshire?

Mr. HARCOURT

I am afraid I could not say.

Mr. ROTHSCHILD

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the matter, and make inquiry?

Mr. HARCOURT

Yes, I will consider any information the hon. Gentleman gives me.
