HC Deb 27 November 1911 vol 32 c38
Mr. WILLIAM O'BRIEN

asked if the right hon. Gentleman can now name the proposed Insurance Commissioners for Ireland; and whether he has any objection that the qualifications of candidates for the position of officers, inspectors, referees, and servants should be submitted to an independent and non-political tribunal?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I am not in a position to add anything to the reply given to the hon. Member when he asked a similar question last Thursday.

Mr. W. O'BRIEN

How soon may we hope to have the names which the right hon. Gentleman promised to furnish?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I did not promise to give the names of the Commissioners for Ireland before the Bill left the House of Commons. I did offer to give the names of the Commissioners for England before we start on the Report stage. I will promise to get them as soon as possible and let the House know the names.

Mr. T. M. HEALY

Am I to understand that we shall not know the names of the Irish Commissioners before the Bill leaves the House of Commons?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

No; my hon. and learned Friend must not understand that. I hope to be able to give them during the next few days. All I said was that I did not promise them.

Mr. WATT

Will the same apply to Scotland? [HON. MEMBERS: "What about Wales?" and "How about the Isle of Man?"]

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

Yes; the same will apply to Scotland?
